Absolutely superb meal. We only went in here as the other main restaurants were booked. I don't know Cardigan well so we just walked up the High st looking for somewhere. Excellent service, genuinely attentive and friendly. The food was superb. My partner had the burger and I had the cod on pulses and with a coconut curry sauce which was lush! The side dish of buttered greens was to die for. When I complimented the chef it came out that he was the chef at the Harbourmaster in Aberaeron for years. The food there would have cost more than double. The building is beautifully old. On the way out it was great to see that the tvs had screen savers with nice pictures rather than sport on them. Lovely touch. Will be back.

Had a family funeral stayed here overnight. Staff are fantastic, so friendly and helpful. No problem at all when I needed an early check-in as we had to get ready for the funeral. Very nice clean rooms, good atmosphere downstairs in the bar. Breakfast was excellent.

I visited the Black Lion pub to check out the refurbishment and sample the food. The last time I visited the pub was in a sorry state of repair, reminiscent of JWTurner’s painting ‘The Fighting Temeraire’ which depicts a great old fighting warship being towed away. When the pub was.closed it felt like there was a huge hole in the high street and was missing a proper pub. Once upon a time the Black Lion was the focus of nightlife in Cardigan. Either the start, or end, or somewhere in the middle of a night out. We used to meet friends at ‘the Black’…It is great to see that it has a comprehensive range of cask and keg ales. It is a shame that only Cardigan Brewery are on keg, while both Mantle (brewed in Cardigan) and Bluestone have some great products. It requires a return visit to sample the evening atmosphere. The breakfast of bubble & squeak (accompanied by lava bread hash browns) was perfect. Meat is provided by the lovely local butcher Ken Davies. The young waiter was affable, and as he’d done well at his GCSEs and had a long shift (9 hours) he was appropriately rewarded with a generous tip. I look forward to returning to sample the lunch and evening menus over a good beer with friends…

A lovely pub/hotel with welcoming staff. We booked an overnight stay as exploring the area. Double ensuite, perfectly formed with a good bathroom. Bedroom coving needs some attention but didn't retract from the room. Very comfy bed and nice pillows. We ate dinner downstairs ... duck breast for me and a Thai chicken curry for my husband... both super nice. Desserts of tonka bean & pistachio profiteroles, and a honey parfait with a rhubarb compote... delicious. Couldn't fault the meal. Roaring fireplace..makes such a difference on a cold evening. Breakfast was included... multiple choices of dishes, and yoghurts and cereals to have aswell. A very nice stay...we would return.

On street parking is the only negative, but the rooms and quality of service from the staff more than make up for this minor inconvenience.
